E. coli notes rejected in many places

According to news reports, Australia's new $5 banknote featuring design resembles E. Coli has been rejected in a number of places, including Opal topping machines.

The cause seems to be the clear strip which (to machines) identifies as the end of the note and it can't recognise it.

Reported locations that had issues with new $5 banknotes are:
Opal card top up machines.
Many vending machines
Woolworths' self-service checkout,
Kmart self-service checkout,
Poker machines,
TAB betting terminals
