new camera, Sony DSC-HX50V

On my way to Singapore few weeks ago, I got a few hours in Sydney airport. The most obvious thing to do in airport when you have a few hours to kill? Window shopping of course.

Over at a duty free counter at the airport, I saw a new compact size camera, with all the modern features I want. So I bought it.

It's a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V. A point and shoot camera.

Many professional photographers demand to carry a bulky camera so everybody knows it's a (big) DSLR camera. I settled with Sony NEX-7 last year. It has all the features and ability of DSLR, but in a size of a (largish) compact camera. I like it, but, it is just not that compact for me. So a good compact point and shoot camera with enough control would be the right camera for me.

The main features of this point-and-shoot camera are the built-in function of Wi-Fi and GPS. I absolutely love GPS built-in. Unlike our Don Luchini who is super-secrective about his location, I enjoy geo-tagging my photos. A built-in GPS camera can simply make life easier.

Wi-Fi is another handy feature. I can sort-of control this camera from another Wi-Fi device. Not full control, but enough to take a shot and change some minor settings. And I can view the photos from another Wi-Fi devices without taking the memory card out or plugging it into my Mac. As a matter of fact, I can control this camera and view the photos from iPhone and iPad. That would be pretty handy I would say.

Other features of this camera? 20.4 mega pixels with CMOS Exmor R sensor, full M (manual) control, 30x optical zoom (up to 60x digital zoon), 3-inch xtra fine LCD view finder, and full HD (1080p) movie recording.

I still use Sony NEX-7 as my professional (DSLR) camera.
