Panasonic DVD player

Panasonic DVD/VHS Player

Unfortunately, the old DVD/VHS player could no longer play any DVD discs. Thanks to Sam, we are still on QuickFlix subscription, we are still getting DVDs. (to Don: Antony can't afford going to cinemas, Antony is poor.)

Suddenly, the Panasonic DVD/VHS player (DMR-E75V) refused to play any DVD. I got myself a good excuse for window shopping. I knew I could use Sony PlayStation 3 to watch DVD and Blu-ray discs, but it's a bit complicated. It's easier to just have a DVD player. So the hunt started.

Getting a “just” DVD player has proven to be a bit challenge. Hardly any options available (at least in David Jones' electronics department). Most of the players these days are Blu-ray players. Since Blu-ray players can play DVDs, I have no problem with getting a Blu-ray player. However, there's another issue.

Most Blu-ray players uses high-definition input port (HDMI) to television. Blu-ray is designed for high-definition playback and uses HDMI port is the right match. Unfortunately, the almost 5-year-old Sony Bravia LCD TV we are still using only came with 3 HDMI ports. And they were all occupied. One for PlayStation 3, one is used for Apple TV, and the remaining one is used for T-Box.

I other words, I need to find a Blu-ray/DVD player that uses Component as one of its output. It turns out, it was not an easy task as most Blu-ray players also have Composite as backup output. To cut the story short, I ended up with Panasonic DMP-DB65GN-K (Networking Blu-ray Disc Player) from David Jones.

And it is connected with Component cable for DVD playing back. As for Blu-ray usage, well, I haven't got that many Blu-ray discs yet. It's pretty thin and lightweight. It worked well.

Unlike Don who demands everything the latest and the highest quality possible, I am happy with DVD playing back, and happy to settle with Component quality.
