I actually did some math

Of course, I did some math.

Firstly, I don't use third-party so-called "equal or exceeding original manufacturer's standard".
Base on the best street pricing of genuine ink and toner, without calculating the overhead such as electricity and paper cost, a A4 print with "5% coverage" would cost:
17.24 cents (colour) on Brother MFC-9840CDW (laser colour)
2.936 cents (mono) on Brother MFC-8890DW (laser mono)
23 cents (colour) on Epson 1410 (just retired inkjet printer)
9.8 cents (colour) on Epson WF-7520 (A3+ mutlifunction inkjet printer)
7.8 cents (colour) on Epson WP-4590 (A4 mutlifunction inkjet printer)

So, apart from black and white laser, the new Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4590 really saves money on printing.
Oh, colour laser printout is not as cheap as colour inkjet.

can you calculate for me how many pages you will have to print on your new printer to pay it off? at 2c better off over the WF-7520 per page i am thinking you would need to print 25,000 pages to come out ahead...based on a price of $500 for the printer...

The Epson WP-4590 is to replace Brother MFC-9840CDW (both A4 category).
Epson WP-4590 is cheaper than one set of MFC-9840CDW's toners (4 high capacity). Each page is down to less than half as in colour laser.
Of course, a set of extra-high WP-4590 capacity inks is much much cheaper than a set of MFC-9840CDW's high capacity toners.
