“stocking-up” the machines, because they are so powerful!

When Apple introduced Power Mac G5 in 2003, in one of their introduction video (YouTube video at about 2:50), they mentioned that the powerful PowerPC G5 generated a lot of heat, so they designed very powerful and silent fan!

The powerful PowerPC G5's fans are so powerful, and it could be a problem for some, particularly for those who live in dusty area and put the Power Mac G5 on the floor. Here's an example from 68kmla:

The fans of Power Mac G5 are pretty powerful and pretty quiet as well. They do a good job on keeping the PowerPC G5 chips cool. However, those powerful fans are simply not suitable for dusty environment. Unfortunately, Sydney is not Don's beautiful Boston and picturesque Quincy.

For dusty areas, pantyhose over the areas where the air comes in helps a lot. It catches lots of dust and can easily be cleaned.

So I followed the advice. Presenting my recently acquired Power Mac G5 with stocking (pantyhose):

And Mac Pro with stocking (pantyhose):

I do use my Dyson vacuum cleaner to vacuum the inside of Mac Pro from time to time, but I believe this stocking (pantyhose) would be a great ideal on reducing the dust.

Unlike Don who lives in dust-free beautiful Boston and picturesque Quincy. One can only dream.

"stocking-up" may be a play on words, but it is a clever way of keeping the dust(s) out. As there seems to be an unused leg, cut them off as they make very good cleaners and static dust removers.
