iPhone 5

12 December, 2011

three new old Macs

During the past week, I've been doing some cheap-b#st%rd way of getting some items.

Unlike Don who got a massive 16 laptops at once, I hardly got any.

The first new* old Mac: (*new as in new to me)
A 10 years old iBook (G3, 500 MHz). That's right, a late 2001 model (specs at EveryMac)

iBook (G3, 500 MHz, late 2001 model)

As for the sticker and residue, I've cleaned them off nicely with a few household cleaning products and WD40 removes the sticker residue nicely.

I then get an even older Mac.
Presenting my new* old iMac: (*new as in new to me)
It's a purple iMac G3 (333 MHz), mid 1999 model. (specs at EveryMac)

This is my first ever iMac G3. It's heavy. (My first iMac was an Intel-based iMac.)

Then, my third new* old Mac: (*again, new as in new to me)
An almost 10 years old iBook (G3, 800 MHz). That's right, a late 2002 model (specs at EveryMac)

iBook (G3, 800 MHz, late 2002 model)

The beauty of this iBook (800 MHz) is it comes with complete set of original discs! It's difficult to get old Macs with the entire original discs these days.

Why do I bother getting those yesteryear's computer which are damn slow in today's standard? Simple: I want to run the good old Mac OS 9. Unlike Don who drives a BMW and chases for the latest of whatsoever update, I don't mind getting something outdated.

Don't worry, none of the item listed above cost more than $50 each.
