my humble MacBook Air 2011 rumour

MacBook Air

Well, this is not a rumour blog, however, occasionally, I received some very good information that I really must post those. This time, it is from the same reliable source I had before. (100% accurate, except I did not post the whole information.)

Well, according to my reliable source, Apple's ultra-lightweight, ultra-thin, ultra-portable MacBook Air will have a refresh, and according to my source, MacBook Air will be using Intel Core i5. Our good friend Don has been complaining Apple only put outdated Core 2 Duo on MacBook Air (in previous update, late 2010). This time, they will be available in Intel Core i5. Perhaps Don would still complain that Intel Core i5 is not powerful enough. Well, it's MacBook Air, not a super-powerful laptop, what do you expect.

So, my reliable source informed me that the new MacBook Air will have Intel Core i5 CPU at speed 1.something GHz range, 2GB to 4GB RAM, and the size of storage? 64GB, 128GB or 256GB. OS X Lion for sure.

Sorry, can't tell you more. And you don't have to believe my "rumour".

Don't worry Don, the upcoming MacBook Air won't be faster (clockspeed-wise) than your laptop running at 2.0GHz (64bit, dual-core), and unlikely to beat your 11 hours battery time (at a cost of additional 5.2 kg for the external battery).

And I have decided the replacement for my 3+ years old 15-inch MacBook Pro, which has been proven to be way too heavy (2.45 kg, 5.4 pounds) to carry around.

Going with a faster and more capable GPU subsystem vs. going with a technically better CPU is a better tradeoff for user enjoyment, IMO. Apple made the correct design decision.
