21 February, 2011

finally, I had a poor man's hair cut

Slow news day, nothing special here except the cockroaches have been running mad during the last few days (as well as other annoying insects such as flies, moths). That is something our friend Don would not understand how uncomfortable the summer is.

Anyhow, I finally managed to have my very first hair cut in 2011. If I remember correctly, I had my last hair cut a week before Christmas. I usually have my hair cut once a month, but for some unknown reason I hadn't had time for so until this afternoon. (You can blame the hot weather for that.) My hair had been pretty long, and for a dark skinned person that was sort of unacceptable and making me look more like a dark skinned tramp. I was thinking about dyeing my hair, but then I told myself, changing the hair colour is one of the many privileges of whites.

Unfortunately, this is the reality, being a dark skinned Asian does not enjoy the same freedoms like white Americans. Hair style is just one of the many things dark skinned Asian simply can't enjoy. Life is unfair for us dark skinned.

In case you wonder, I had my hair cut in the same barber shop that I've had for many years in Australia, from Randwick to Leichhardt.

I don't know how you've managed to turn hairstyles into a racial issue, but I'll have you know that several of my friends who are Asian have interesting hairstyles.
The last time I had my hair cut was before yours, and the next time it will be cut will be later than the cut you got. Also I will likely walk or take the bus to get it done instead of driving.

Well, you obviously haven't heard the comments talking behind some Asian's back, like "that Japanese dyed his hair gold and thought he would become a white Caucasian." You don't hear similar comments like those referring to Caucasians. Hence, it is clear that white Caucasians can enjoy a very wide range of hair colourings or styles, not dark skinned Asians.
How did you figure out that I drove to the barber shop?

I know Asian guys who have died their hair. I know a black guy who died his hair too, for that matter.
I didn't even assume you drove to the barber shop, but knew you would somehow figure that I would do so despite the fact that I don't drive much. But of course, now that you've mentioned to me that you drove to the barber shop, I will take the opportunity to ask how far it is.

According to Google Maps, it was 2.6 km. Remember, Sydney is very HOT and not as safe as beautiful Boston.

According to Google Maps, it is a 10km round trip for me, and I have walked it through both -15C winters when it's very icy and 35C summers at midday, when the sun is very strong. It's NOT as big an ordeal as you tried to make it sound.

You are white, remember? You have more freedoms on the hair style than us dark skinned Asians. Which means you don't need to have your hair cut that often.

Please re-read my second comment, as it's obvious that you didn't the first time.

Yes, I read your comment, however, you forgot to mention that many of those Asians or dark skinned people with funny hair style or non-nature hair colours usually receive some sort of disapproval eye.
