visiting Alice Springs?

Visiting Alice Springs? Your coffee fix and ice cream fix are covered.

Unlike Don's very advanced America, Australia is not that big. Alice Springs is located in the central of Australia, a very dry and hot area most of the time. It is also known for high population of real dark skinned people living here (translate: not safe for Don).

Two most important stores are available here.

Gloria Jeans Coffees is available in Alice Springs for your coffee fix.

Too hot? There's Wendy's Ice Creams.

Sorry for blurry photos, due to the high temperature, I guess I couldn't take good photos.

Besides the very important Gloria Jeans Coffees and Wendy's Ice Cream, there are Coles, Woolworths, Kmart, Target, McDonald's Restaurant, KFC, Hungry Jack's, Red Rooster, and Gerry Harvey's Harvey Norman.

Well, Laurent and I were lucky to visit Alice Springs at this time, it is unusual green thanks to unusual amount of rain last year. There was one road closed due to flooding (from rain). (Well, not every road was flood proofed like the ones in beautiful Boston and picturesque Quincy.)

Well, probably Don would not want to visit the very hot Alice Springs at all, since no beautiful snow is expected in Alice Springs all year round.

And again, you made too many baseless assumptions about me and my place of residence.
Our roads are not flood-proofed. In fact, last fall, a major road going through Quincy flooded, making travel difficult and in turn flooding lots of basements.
You know I don't even like terrible snow, so your conclusion that I would not visit Alice Springs with your reason given is clearly false.
Finally, not only is "not safe for Don" is insulting to a great many people, but you forgot that I do not live in the stereotypical white suburb that you keep insisting I do.

Alice Springs also has very very high amount of annoying flies due to the high temperature.
Obviously, you are lucky enough tonlive in the advanced and orderly United States of America, you never seen the faces od those really dark skinned people. And many of those do not have friendly faces like white Americans.

Of course, you just refuse to listen when I say we have active insects here as well.
You should know that some of your words are quite offensive to those people whom you are judging unfairly.

You conveniently forgot the basic fact: annoying flies aren't around in your nice cool weather (i.e. beautiful snow).
The hotter it gets, the more annoying flies we have. Beautiful snow is not just snow being beautiful, it also indicates the very nice lacking of annoying insects.

And you are the one that, incorrectly, decided that it's perpetually "nice and cool" here. Not only are the summers quite hot (okay, not as hot as yours, but more than enough for insects to be active), but when the terrible snow falls, all the rodents come indoors.

I don't think rodents would get on to your body or even your face. How lucky you are, you haven't experienced the huge amount of annoying flies.

Are you kidding? Every summer I used to get eaten alive by horseflies and mosquitoes at my grandparents' place.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 21 January 2011 1:40 AM.
It won't be a huge amount of them (like in Alice Springs) attacking people.
Posted by Antony on 21 January 2011 1:53 AM.
Are you talking about swarms, or (more likely, knowing you) just exaggerating a few bites, perhaps a few per hour?
Posted by Don_HH2K on 21 January 2011 5:13 AM.
A very very huge amount of annoying flies. Not just a few. It is not something people from beautiful snow area would understand.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology it snowed four times in Alice Springs in the twentieth century! As for Gloria Jean's, K-Mart et al, I suspect we would be better off without them.
