Merry Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas everybody.

Still, I did not actually put up Christmas tree this year. (Last year, I put the tree up early, also took it down on Christmas Day.) Well, I did managed to get a different kind of tree up: electronic version.

Christmas tree 2010

(as usual, more photos follow...)

Yep, it is this year's Christmas tree. Quick assembling, mess free, and no (physical) space required after taking it down. As a tradition, I put all the gifts under the tree.

Well, either Santa was hit by the global financial crisis or having problem finding this year's digital Christmas tree, the amount of gifts are down compared to last year. (To Don: nowhere near yours)

Besides, the digital Christmas tree (on Sony TV). (to Don: the Sony TV is small) I also made a special Christmas Macaron Tree.

My Christmas Macaron Tree in a Christmas Party in friends' place. (Sorry Don: We don't have beautiful white Christmas)
Christmas Macaron Tree

Laurent made the macarons, however, he told me it was not possible to make a Christmas tree out of macarons without ruin them. He told me that more than 3 layers, the macarons, the macarons would be crushed as bottom layer of macarons won't be able to hold the weight. And edible glue won't work.

I told him that I could make a Christmas tree out of macarons without using glues or toothpicks. I build a macaron holder out of thick paper (190 gsm).

Christmas Macaron Tree

It is still a kind of Christmas tree.

Oh, for the record, we broke our tradition of opening the presents right after midnight on Christmas Day. As a matter of fact, we haven't opened any presents. We will leave them for Boxing Day this year.

Also a special note for Don: About 80% of people there have an iPhone, either iPhone 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4, and not just young adults! Also quite a few iPads around there as well. Of course iPad was one of the main topic there. This indicates iPhones and iPads are popular, and they are NOT that expensive.

Don must be enjoying his beautiful white Christmas. No white Christmas here.

Sorry Don: the macaron we used were French macarons (Macaron de Paris), not the American macaroons (different spelling, and different pronunciation).

Merry Christmas everybody.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your Christmas. Some points I have to make:
1) You have far more gifts under your tree! We had just four under the tree this year (to Antony: not all for me, don't worry). Well, I didn't put wrap the gifts I got for my parents, so I didn't put them under the tree.
2) You call me the 21st century digital boy, but you even have a digital Christmas tree, not to mention the latest and greatest gadgets like the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, and iPad that you brought up in this very post.
3) Most of the snow has melted so it's (thankfully) not a very white Christmas. A white Christmas would have made it difficult for people to get around for the gatherings.

Well,
1. I don't get all of those gifts.
2. You have a lot of gadgets, and very into the latest technology. Not me.
3. Still, whiter than us. Don't worry, snow is expected in Sunday and Monday in picturesque Quincy.

Hey Antony, you couldn't fit the complete "s" into your "small" 52 inch flat panel 1080P TV set?
I don't see my gift there? You must have made the photograph before xmas eve then?
I am pleased all the nonsense is over for another year!
I feel peacefully cleansed this boxing day.

Thank you Rev. I will make sue the word fits completely next year. (If I can't be bothered putting up the tree again.) Also, I thought this "digital" Christmas Tree would without a doubt receive Don's approval!
It was there, on the back row second from left.

Antony, remember the terrible snow that cancelled the Christmas party last Monday? That party got rescheduled to this coming Monday, and it looks like it is going to be cancelled again due to even more terrible snow!

Well, the highlight of the Christmas is the huge number of expensive gifts under your Christmas tree! So you have forgo the Christmas Party.
Enjoy your Boxing Day Sale!
Posted by Antony on 26 December 2010 3:49 PM.
No, actually, that's not the highlight of Christmas at all. And snow is a terrible reason to have to miss a Christmas party.

So much for your "beautiful snow" that you have no experience about. The entire East Coast of the US, including beautiful Boston, and much more of the country are under a deluge of the cold, wet, icy white stuff.
Imagine no electricity for all your hi-tech stuff, or even worse no electricity for your Nespresso!!!
Time for a reality check, I hope 2011 might bring this.

Don,
okay then. Opening Christmas presents is the highlight of the Christmas Day, and bargain hunting (e.g. shopping) is the highlight of the Boxing Day.
Remember: you lucky guys have the "right" season for Christmas.

Rev. Dr.,
What? No electricity for making Nespresso coffee? That's unacceptable. I am sure Don has backup electricity generator.
Posted by Antony on 27 December 2010 12:48 PM.
What you just described sounds like Consumerismas, not Christmas!
No, I don't have a backup generator. If the power goes out, the power goes out, big deal.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 27 December 2010 2:28 PM.
It is what most people do. Gift giving before Christmas, and getting bargains for themselves. The spirit of Christmas.

...."sounds like Consumerismas....."

You see DON, our Antony not being a lucky "white American" and having no exposure to the religious symbolism of this time of year, must fall back on the universal symbolism of spending, to justify his exuberance at this time of the year.
I frankly, have never been able to work out why, if it is the supposed deity's birthday, do we buy each other gifts? But then, I am a cynic!
