two's better than one, part 13: the display chapter

As we all know, two is better than one. A while back, the poor Antony has decided to use the opportunity to make the best bargain of it.

When Laurent ordered his Don approved 21.5-inch iMac (Intel Core i5), I used the opportunity to order the second LED Cinema Display, which was part of my initial budget for Mac Pro. (This is following Don's longevity principle.) Why? So I can save on the AppleCare Protection Plan (warranty). With AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac hardware, if you purchase an Apple Display at the same time as the main Mac hardware, the Apple Display is also covered by the same AppleCare Protection Plan. So I had the first 27-inch LED Cinema Display purchased with Mac Pro, and this LED Cinema Display purchased with the iMac. Both covered. Voilą!

(as usual, more photos follow...)

As usual, time for some quick photos.

Two boxes:
Apple LED Cinema Display boxes
The old box and the new box of course. The boxes look good.

Since I posted my poor setup earlier, this is an updated setup, together with my iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone 4.

Still, excuse for the untidiness, I will work on the cables.

Some of our sharp eyed readers may notice a pair of white gloves on the corner of the Zed Desk. What for? For handling the Apple LED Cinema Displays of course. Just a pair of white cotton gloves would save a lot of hassles on removing finger prints. (I am sure most people in beautiful Boston knows the benefit of white gloves.)

SillyDog701 moderator Mandrake has three monitors in Eyefinity setup. (Mandrake's setup is awesome, take a look!) Well, I will settle for two. Unlike Don, I don't demand a lot of monitors on my desk.

Okay I called Freedom (furniture), and although my beautiful Zed Desk has tempered glass, the maximum load weight is 40 kg.

(to Don: Antony is poor.)

This entry is not about Don. Things pertaining to Don in this entry do not need to be bolded.
Wow, more expensive stuff with the Apple logo on it that you've bought in the past few months? So that's a Mac Pro, TWO Cinema Displays, an iPad, an iPhone 4 (to be used alongside your iPhone 3G and iPod touch), the new Apple mouse and trackpad... Are you sure you didn't win the lottery and aren't telling me?
Posted by Don_HH2K on 15 December 2010 12:34 AM.
Well, when mention about Don, it is important to show some respect.
No, I did NOT win lottery. Those items were bought from my saving over years.

Creepy, but the white gloves are a bit "Jacksonesque", don't you think folks?
Posted by Rev.Dr.Wu Yi on 15 December 2010 11:23 AM.
No, Michael Jackson wore a shiny white glove (singular) and only for his number 1 smash hit Billie Jean, not regular white gloves (a pair).

So you are rich, you had a ton of savings just for Apple gadgets!
Don't worry, I'm not special enough that you need to show me more respect than anyone else, as you seem to love doing.

I don't just save for Apple products, just like I don't just buy Apple products.
How many times do I need to tell you that Antony is poor?
Posted by Antony on 15 December 2010 5:05 PM.
Anthony may be poor, but he spends way too much on Apple gear. I hope that this is only a small percentage of your income for the Year, Ant. Sam.

Well, it is all back to Don's longevity principle. Because of being poor, it makes sense to get something that is a bit better and lasts longer. (Just like when Don choices laptop or mobile phone, he insisted on certain specifications.)

You do realize that most panels are manufactured by the same companies, and the only real difference is the outer shell? Most are made by LG-Philips and Samsung now, if I'm not mistaken.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 16 December 2010 4:14 PM.
You don't just buy the panels. The difference is not just the outer shell as you like to call it, there's different connectivity, features as well as the very important design associated to it.
Remember: I don't have huge room like you do, and Sydney is very hot. I need to get things that are compact design as well as not generating much heat.
Posted by Antony on 16 December 2010 4:19 PM.
You're worried about compact design, so you bought two 27-inch displays? It sounds to me like you are just finding ways to argue.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 17 December 2010 6:59 AM.
For almost 4 years with my previous 24-inch iMac, I notice that I did not have enough screen space. I've made up my mind on having a dual monitor setup.
Just like most people, I saved up my money and it was time to treat myself. The Apple LED Cinema Displays are thin profile design (compared to other brands). Without a doubt, my Zed Desk does not have room for any 27-inch CRT monitors (the monitor you would approve).
