finally, a proper air conditioner for the poor

Last week, the poor Antony finally got an air conditioner installed for his tiny office. Unlike Don (and almost everybody I know) have enjoyed the nice cool and quiet air for years, the poor Antony finally got one. Like many other things, it takes quite a while to catch up with Don.

Sydney, like many parts of Australia, can go over 40C (104F in American unit) easily during summer. Beautiful snow is not expected this Christmas in Australia.

February last year (Feb 2009), I got a small portable air conditioner (Omega Altise Reverse Cycle Portable Air Conditioner APC12RC), however, it did not work well, and having quite a few issues, so I decided to get a proper split system reverse cycle air conditioner before the heat (air conditioner rush) comes in summer. Since I have decided to get one, it makes sense to get it earlier, so I don't need to wait in the long queue for the electricians to install the air conditioners, as well as I can enjoy the nice cool air Don has enjoyed all his life.

(as usual, more photos follow...)

The nation's long range weather forecaster Robert Rizzo expects heavy rains and thunderstorms, above average rains (especially for eastern coast of Australia) for the Summer. The reason, a big change in our weather pattern. Not El Nino this time, but La Nina. Dr Andrew Watkins from Bureau of Meteorology agrees with the forecaster. The Weather Channel's Tome Saunders also agrees. In short, this summer is expected to have a lot of summer rain in northern and eastern areas of Australia, a bit below average temperature during the day, and warm and humid nights (heat trapped in). And typically, La Nina breaks down in Autumn, that's still quite a few months to go. One way or the other, air conditioner is needed to survive in hot Sydney.

Getting the air conditioner installed is not an easy task. Although I was not installing it myself at all, it still is a complicated task. Choosing a right model then finding the best bargain for that model took quite a fair bit of time to start with. Arranging the time for electricians to install it is another issue. Before electrician's visit, I need to move out a number of items from the room, as well as cover up all the shelves, and tables. Once they have completed, I need to do another big vacuuming, and using this opportunity to clean the areas that I don't normally clean such as areas behind the desk or shelves. And finally, move everything back, as well as rearrange new cable layouts.

Those electricians were nice to clean up the mess from the drilling of the wall, I still have to do a big cleaning. Further, Sydney is very dusty, unlike beautiful Boston, we simply don't miss out any opportunities on cleaning.

Anyhow more photos.

It's a Panasonic Inverter Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner (2.6kW, model: CS/CU-E9LKR)

Sorry for not very crispy sharp photos.

Just before Don asks, it is a cheap one.

So the conclusion of this blog entry: Don is lucky to live in beautiful Boston with nice and cool weather as well as hardly any dusts. Antony is poor.

Welcome to century 21 heating and cooling Antony.
With the $AUD being par and even above par with the $US, DON will be surprised that your "cheap" system cost about $US1,500.00, fully installed.

Shhh. I have been carefully not to mention the figure to Don.

Pray kindly replace the numbers in my post with asterisks. $US*,***.**

If you like Boston so much, why don't you move there? ;-) - I will pay for your plane ticket!

It's not just the plane ticket, it is well known that US Customs do not like any non-white non-Caucasians. Visa is a big issue.

Hey Ant, What's happened to your blog? It used to be cool, but now it's just a petty dialogue between you and don.

That others are noticing the tedium of the Ant/Don saga.
This is despite their constant posturing by PM.

Because Don pretty much refuses to believe everything I told him.

Who does believe any of what you tell me?
