30 July, 2010

finally, I got myself an iPhone 4

After watching lucky Americans (and a handful of first tier countries) using the iPhone 4 for more than a month, and a very long queuing, I finally got myself with an iPhone 4 in the wee hours this morning.

TelstraHere's my queuing story. Somehow, I hope to get the iPhone 4 before 8am (the time Apple Store opens) today, and I had pretty much made up my mind that I am switching my mobile network from Vodafone to Telstra. For two simple reasons: coverage is much more important then the cost (value) of the plan, and the 3G speed is also important. Telstra's NextG network is really fast.

Next GSo here is my iPhone 4 story:
Due to work, I could not start queue as early as I would've wanted. So I decided to queue at Telstra Shop in Broadway Shopping Centre at about 10:20pm. However, I was not early enough (number 50-something), and they only had 9 units of 32GB iPhone 4 (and total of about 60 or 70 iPhone 4's). I then decided to change the queue to the main Telstra Shop (flag store, directly opposite Apple Store George Street). The queue at main Telstra Shop is much faster, but still, I was quite a fair bit behind. They had 250 16GB iPhone 4's and 250 32GB iPhone 4's for the midnight launching.

To cut the story short: after hours of freezing cold queuing outside, I finally got my 32GB iPhone 4 with a cheap cap plan at around 4:10am. Here's the photo of the iPhone 4 box shot and the Telstra Micro-SIM card in Telstra Shop.

My cheap iPhone 4 cap plan surprisingly has Don's approval. It makes much more sense to pay a few hundred dollars (overall price) more (than just the outright price for the handset), and I got sufficient amount of credit and data to use.

Credit check (credit rating) at Telstra was much faster than Vodafone's when I signed up for iPhone 3G two years ago. The credit check this morning with Telstra was almost instant. I remember well that Vodafone took quite a while to check my credit rating twice. One for mobile broadband, and one for iPhone 3G which took about 30 minutes.

Here's the photo of the iPhone 4 box (back home):

The first thing I did after I got back home (and the quick photo above) was, of course, applying the very important invisibleSHIELD. I guess I must have applied invisibleSHIELD on quite a number of gadgets, this iPhone 4 was the fastest one I've ever applied.

A photo of the iPhone 4 just applied with invisibleSHIELD:

What does applying invisibleSHIELD mean? I will need to let my iPhone 4 set for 12-24 hours for the best results. For the meantime, I will play with my iPad.

So far, I've spent absolutely nothing (zero, nada) for this iPhone 4 if you do not count the cost of the very important invisibleSHIELD.
To Don: Antony is poor.

I could not start queuing at early time due to work. Then, I decided to queue for the iPhone 4 late last night.
