ABC to launch 24 hours news channel

Finally, Australia will have a free-to-air 24 hours news channel. Sky News is 24 hours news channel, but not free. The new channel will be called "ABC News 24" and should be available in a couple of days. In preparation for this new channel, the ABC have been making noticeable moves over the past few days to the structure of their current channel line-up.

The new channel will be made available on channel 24 across all regions in Australia. And the bad news? If you are one of those who demand the highest quality (1080i HD) like Don in beautiful Boston, the ABC HD channel (on channels 20 and 24) have been discontinued.

According to average TV rating data, ABC News is usually ranked behind commercial TV news (Seven News, Nine News, and Ten News). ABC News is known to be focused on rather boring political issues as well as far away international news.

As for me, I am very happy with light news entertainment programme like Sunrise which focus on more local news as well as entertainment news.

I'd like to see one of the US broadcasters do this. ABC (the US ABC, at least) and NBC have news broadcasts on TV several times a day, and CBS has 24/7 news on AM radio, but a lot of small shops pay for basic cable or satellite service just so that they can put CNN on a TV.

The CNN or any cable/pay TV in the States is NOT as expensive as the very basic pay TV packages here.

Actually, the $42AU basic package from Foxtel is slightly cheaper than the $37.65US basic package from Comcast, according to the exchange rate from Google.
Comcast's "Basic Cable" package is only $7.70, but it's misleading as "Basic Cable" is the exact same channels as you get from broadcast TV.
