a stapler

Some of you may know that I've been admitting the fact that I am outdated in numerous occasions, especially when comparing to Don. Well, few days ago during a window shopping at Officeworks, I discovered that there's a new kind of stapler.

(as usual, more photos follow...)

So, what's so special about this stapler?

Normally, you get the results like this with regular stapler:

(Photos below were taken with Sony macro lens, but not at 1:1 zoom)

This stapler make the staple extremely flat, saving the space.

Of course Don wouldn't be impressed with a device like this as I am pretty such gadgets is norm to him. For me, I just discovered that there's such a wonderful thing exist in the world available as a handhold device.

(to Don: Antony is poor.)

more May 2010 blogs. (or 2010 blogs)
from iTunes Store:
So I see your beloved Apple's policy of "everything needs to be as thin as inhumanly possible" is now spilling over into even the everyday items that you buy.
I've never seen one, so they definitely aren't the norm to me. But at the same time, I'm not impressed because nobody (but you, apparently) really cares about staple bulge anyway. In fact, it seems like it would just make them harder to remove.

There's a device called staple remover. I am sure you have one.
And another reason that you are not impressed is simply such device or style is not Microsoft.
Posted by Antony on 7 May 2010 12:38 AM.
I actually don't have one - easier to use a scissor blade anyway.
What has Microsoft got to do with staplers?
Posted by Don_HH2K on 7 May 2010 1:32 AM.
You might get cut with blade of scissors.
Microsoft is not known on getting compact and space saving.
Posted by Antony on 7 May 2010 1:58 AM.
You might get hurt with a staple remover too.
So everything not compact and space-saving is automatically associated with Microsoft? Geez.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 7 May 2010 8:21 AM.
With a staple remover, it is far less likely to hurt oneself. I am pretty sure that most people would agree with me on this (except Don).
No, you are the one linked the stapler into Apple's style and design. When I bought the stapler, I did not think of Apple at all.
Posted by Antony on 7 May 2010 8:18 PM.
My point was "big deal" about getting hurt, apparently you missed that.
It is well-known that Apple loves to make things unnecessarily thin, exactly like your unnecessarily thin staples. If you didn't think of that when you bought it, I guess they have made that much of an impression on your daily lifestyle.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 8 May 2010 1:11 AM.
What's wrong with making things that does the same function while saving space occupied? You made it sound evil.
Posted by Antony on 9 May 2010 10:52 AM.
All I am saying is that it had no practical advantage over a plain old stapler. That's especially considering it probably cost more than a plain old stapler too.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 10 May 2010 2:13 AM.
Space saving is a huge advantage, particularly when you have a huge pile of stapled document piled up. I wish I had bought this stapler earlier.
Posted by Antony on 10 May 2010 6:34 AM.
I know what huge piles of stapled documents look like. I had to shred several file cabinets worth of documents one summer when my work got liquidated, the staples barely added any thickness to the piles.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 11 May 2010 5:48 AM.
They wasted a lot of space. Particularly when you stapled nicely on the same corner and on the (almost) identical position.
Posted by Antony on 11 May 2010 1:01 PM.
Sorry, I forgot you consider measures like a couple of millimeters to be "a lot of space".
Posted by Don_HH2K on 11 May 2010 1:25 PM.
A couple of mm per stapled document! And a pile of stapled documents when you staple them nicely all in the near same position do add up quite a fair bit of space being wasted.
Posted by Antony on 11 May 2010 3:15 PM.
Perhaps you missed my comment a few posts up - I can attest to the fact that they don't.
Posted by Don_HH2K on 12 May 2010 12:46 AM.
Do you really need me to take a photo of stapled documents piled up with a regular stapler and the one that makes very flat stapling? (All stapled on the same position.)
Or perhaps you guys are too used to spacious rooms, and don't care about the unnecessary space wasted by staples.

Don't worry, the office I was doing all the shredding in was smaller than yours. Not only that, but the desk was right in the middle of it (wasn't my office, so I couldn't move it to the side), and trash cans were lined up near the door, so I'd say space was pretty tight.
