I am outdated

I am not just old-fashioned, but also outdated.

Back when I was in university, I've never used laptops on taking notes in the class (that includes lecture theatres, tutorial rooms, class rooms, laboratories ... etc). It's not just me, no one uses laptops in the class.

Sam Elphick sent me a link to this video:

Clearly, unlike Don from beautiful Boston, picturesque Quincy and now reputable Rochester. I fail to see the need of using a laptop in the lecture. Back then, I (and every other students who bothers to copy down the notes) would use pen and paper, after years of university, we all either learned to copy the board fast.

Technology has changes. a laptop now can have up to 8 hours of battery life under wireless productivity with 17-inch screen for just 2.99kg, or 7 hours of wireless productivity battery life for 13-inch model for just 2.04kg. Somehow, I can't leave this part out: Don opt to have 11 hours of battery life at a cost of 5.2kg for the external battery pack plus the laptop weight (2.58kg).

According to him, he carries the 5.2kg battery pack on top of his 2.58kg laptop to classes on daily basis, and he has no issues with that. I am still amazed with his ability of carrying so much.

For me, one of the main reasons on getting an iPad is the weight. Only 0.63kg for Wi-Fi model, and just 0.73kg for Wi-Fi + 3G model.

It has nothing to do with you being old-fashioned or not, but that laptops were not as common back when you were in university. Once again, you forgot to consider that the times change. Now you have a MacBook Pro AND an iPhone (AND an iPod touch), which fits the "connected"/"wired" thing pretty well.
The battery pack is in a backpack, hence not that hard to carry. It would be harder in a messenger bag or similar.
"Wireless productivity" is just a buzz word, I keep telling you that.

Of course, I am outdated, compared to today's modern kids. I used pen and paper, not laptop for notes taking. Not even everybody had a mobile phone back then. For those who love music, it was discman or even walkman, not portable MP3 player.
You are so lucky and so advanced.
It is not a buzz word. Back in old days, the battery life of a laptop was measured in extreme condition (lowest screen brightness and all wireless are turned off) which is clearly not practical.

You are assuming that everything else has been held equal, which is not the case. Times change; if you went back to university today, you'd have a laptop and a MP3 player/cellphone/whatever else.
So according to you, when I am talking about my laptop's battery life, I am talking about how long it lasts when I'm not doing anything with it? During normal use I should call it my "wireless productivity life"? Nobody does that.
