fridge exploded?

For a while I thought the fridge in the upstairs had exploded (internally). Or the coolant was leaking inside. Because all the sudden, I noticed this brownish black liquid inside the fridge when I got some milk for making my Nespresso coffee. (BTW, fridge is known as refrigerator in Don's American English)

The upstairs' fridge is virtually mine. The freezer compartment is my ice cream, ice cubes, and the fridge part pretty basic: just a few Coca-Cola cans (usually in between 20-30 cans), a few softdrink bottles (currently 1x Mountain Dew and 1 Pepsi), and my Pura Milk. There are still plenty of space there, I guess, I can put my cups and glasses there to keep them cool.

Back to the story, I called Laurent.

He told me, it was my Coca-Cola exploded. And I realised it was right. There is an entire shelf in the fridge full of Coca-Cola cans (Don knows that I drink Coke in cans with straws, not bottles.) Somehow, I had the fridge's temperature a bit too cold.

Here's what happened the said Coca-Cola can.

Sorry for the quick photos, those photos were taken by my iPhone 3G.

I have never known of a properly functioning fridge to have the non-freezer area cold enough to burst a coke can! You only require 4-8c in the food storage area as far as I know, but like everything else you do, you go to extremes.
BTW, it must be very cold in beautiful Boston, picturesque Quincy and even on the college campus with that winter storm ripping across the north eastern U.S!

If you put water near the back of fridge shelf (never the cooling element), the water can freeze easily.
When do you see me do things 'extreme'? I am always very moderate!
BTW, the college campus is addressed as 'reputable Rochester'.
