new iMac, new Mac mini, new MacBook and new Magic Mouse today

21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs

Apple release a few new hardware, including new 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs, the beauty of it is that the new iMac uses LED-backlit display with built-in SD slot, as well as up to Intel Core i7 quad-core processors.

On the Mac mini aspect, I was right. At least, partially right. Earlier this month I mentioned that the Mac mini would be released without optic drive, and I was correct, the Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server ships without the optic drive. It is a very smart move for Apple I'd add, making those who wish to use Mac mini as server a lot easier.

The new MacBook now features durable polycarbonate unibody design with bright LED-backlit display, and the battery lasts up to 7 hours in wireless environment.

As mentioned earlier, the 12-inch PowerBook G4 bought in 2004 has been serving for 5+ years. It is still running perfectly fine, however, its speed and performance is clearly not up to today's standard. Laurent is still using it daily since his PC dead. A very convenient way to convert Laurent to Mac I would add. My 24-inch iMac is reaching the end of its 3-year AppleCare Protection Plan (warranty). Since the Mac upgrading plan has been in the pipeline for the last few months, today's Apple announcement is certainly a welcome news.

It seems to me that replacing the PowerBook G4 to a faster one is more important then replacing the almost 3-year old iMac which I am still using as the main computer. There are a few options: getting a new iMac for me, and let Laurent use my current 24-inch iMac instead. Or getting a Mac mini for Laurent, and wait and see what I need to replace this iMac.

The newly released Magic Mouse seems to be an excellent upgrade to the Mighty Mouse, as the ball of the Mighty Mouse does get clogged from time to time.

It is one good piece of engineering drawn to the perfection. Apple has one of the best names in the field of computers and laptops and it is sure to remain as one for the years to come with such products as the result of some incredible engineering.
