it costs $14,000 to die

Got ripped-off?
Prepare to get R.I.P.ed -off.

We all know that living cost is not cheap these days, but can you believe it costs quite a fair bit just to die?

According to this news report, it costs more than $14,000 for a just basic funeral service in NSW.

Well, there's a better way to die. Say you die while on duty as a policeman or policewoman, or while serving the country, the funeral will not just be paid by the government, but you will also be honoured, perhaps also on TV as well.

News source: Funeral directors cashing in on vulnerable

GRIEVING families are being charged up to $7000 for memorial rose bushes and plaques as funeral directors cash in on consumers at their most vulnerable.

The Sunday Telegraph has found funeral costs have soared in recent years with some families facing bills of more than $14,000 for a basic service.

The NSW Office of Fair Trading is investigating 18 complaints of alleged overcharging and malpractice by funeral directors.

The State Government introduced new laws in February this year requiring suppliers of funerals to provide consumers with the cost of a basic service. The cost must also be itemised after goods and services had been delivered.

But stakeholders claim the new laws are flawed with no maximum cost for a basic funeral set down as recommended by a parliamentary inquiry held into the industry in 2005.

They say the loophole leaves families vulnerable to emotional pressure from funeral directors to upgrade to the most expensive coffins, flowers and services.

As usual, you go for the jugular!
The average cost of a standard funeral is somewhere between $A3,000 and $A5,000, which is outrageous enough!
I have a friend who is still paying off his mother's $A25,000 funeral from 4 years ago, simply because his mother made him an emotional cripple, and he couldn't do anything but give her the best send-off his money could buy! Live and learn, die and burn......

I did not 'go for the jugular'. $14,000 is what the newspaper said.
