new Mac mini without optic drive?

Well, it's time for some speculations.

mock up photo

There are indications (rumours) that Apple is updating iMac, MacBook, and Mac minis. Although I don't usually read the rumour news as bible, I will add my two cents to this rumour.

So, there's my speculation: the major difference in the upcoming Mac mini will feature no built-in optic drive. It will be same as MacBook Air where users can use nearby Mac or PC to read CDs or DVDs.

Despite the new Mac mini contains optic drive or not, I think it is about time to replace the 5+ years old PowerBook G4 with the next Mac mini, as Laurent has been complaining the slowness of it. Despite the age of the PowerBook G4, it is still running smoothly, just not quick or powerful enough in terms of today's standard.

Please note, the picture is only a mock up photo.

Without an optical drive, you might as well just buy a shallow 1U rack for about the same price.

A 1U rack for about the same price as a Mac mini? You must be joking.

If you ask me, getting rid of the Optical Drive would be a bad part for the Mac Mini.
This would probably discourage a lot of customers to cheaper PCs with optical drives, and make a pretty useless computer.

There's always an external option.

I prefer exterrestial option for the Mac Mini.

Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a top notch article_ but what
can I say_ I procrastinate a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.
