It's cool to see them port over Parallels to reach a larger user base, though I have a feeling most Windows and Linux users will stick to free virtualization products like VirtualBox and VirtualPC. (I myself am a VirtualBox user.)

I guess the main competitor for Parallels would be the famous VMWare.
One way or the other, more choices or competition is usually good for the consumers.

I actually only really see VMware being used by businesses. Most people I know use VirtualBox, though Virtual PC is a somewhat user-friendlier option for most people.

Can I assume that most people you know are like you, into open source and freeware?

Not necessarily, but they are people that aren't about to spend money on a product if they can get much the same thing for free.
