big announcement from WWDC Keynote

WWDC

Quite a number of announcements from WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2009) today.

new MacBook Pro family
New releases today are the new MacBook Pro family, 13-inch unibody MacBook are now MacBook Pro with powerful features never available on its class before. The white polycarbonate 13-inch MacBook is still available. All MacBook Pros feature extra long battery and more energy efficient and free from environment harmful elements. This is something very interesting. A certain open-source extremist I know of would of course enjoy the long battery life out from a single battery, but that battery is not user replaceable, which against his liking.

The incredibly thin and light MacBook Air is now more powerful and more affordable.

Well, I got my 15-inch MacBook Pro (2.5GHz, not unibody) in March last year. The new one has some great features, but I am not looking at replacing it at this stage as mine is still under AppleCare Protection Plan. One interesting point to note is that in 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros, there is an SD card slot but not ExpressCard (still available for high-end 17-inch users). It seems like a wise move, as many digital cameras and DSLRs are using SD memory cards.

SafariSafari 4.0 is finally shipped. My comments so far: thanks for moving the tabs from title bar back to the normal (conventional) position.
I haven't tested it much, but I found it pretty steady compared to beta version.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard seems to be very promising! And as Apple made it clear, Snow Leopard is refining the current 10.5 Leopard. And it costs only US$ 29. FACT: Apple do not charge users $129 each year for OS update, as many Apple haters like to make it sound so. Snow Leopard is also very looking forward, 64-bit is one of the key element, and no longer supports PowerPC architecture which is not surprising.

As for the very important upcoming iPhone 3G S, well, I queued outside Apple Store Sydney on its first day of sale for my 16 GB iPhone 3G. There are some new features in iPhone 3G S, but I am not one of those who must live with the latest model. It's unlikely that I would get an iPhone 3G S anytime soon.

Without a doubt, you can find many people selling their MacBook Pros and iPhone 3Gs around, so they can get the latest. Sorry, I am not one of those cutting edge individuals. (I am still using my nearly 3 years old iMac as my main computer.)

Well, I watched the (two-hour) WWDC keynote on Apple's website, and it seemed like there was a lot of propaganda to me.

Of course, it's not Microsoft or any of your beloved open-source organisations/companies. You carefully studied the 'enemy' (or whatever you want to refer that as).
