20 May, 2009post boxesI have been taking some photos of unusual post boxes (it might be called mail boxes or letter boxes in the States). The above photo from Wikipedia shows the regular post boxes in streets around Australia. There still some old post boxes around Australia. (to Don: Australia is not that advanced, not everything is new or latest.) A quite petit post box in a small (historical) town called Ross in Tasmania. (as usual, more photos follow...) This is a rather ugly one, but there's something very unique. The collection time: by 9.30am Monday to Friday! The earliest collection time I've ever noticed! Sometimes I haven't even finished by brekky by 9.30am. It is located in a tiny town called Collector in NSW. A rather famous one in Richmond, Tasmania. A unusual shape one in Portland, Victoria. Flagstaff Hill, Warrnambool, Victoria. This is one similar to the one in Warrnambool (above two photos), without the painting. In Grindelwald Holiday Resort & Shopping Village, Tamar Valley, Tasmania. The Grindelwald Resort is a Swiss style village, very nice there. We stayed there for two nights. Except the first photo which is taken from Wikipedia, all other photos are taken by me. I am pretty there are many beautiful mail boxes in beautiful Boston. Posted by Antony on 20 May 2009 11:02 PM

I think that most of the post boxes around here date back to the 1960s, though they've definitely thrown paint on them a few times since then.
When I visited Ireland a few years ago, they told us about how the postal service there had been built out under British rule. They still used the original post boxes in Dublin, bearing the embossed Royal Mail logos, but are painted green instead of red. Posted by Don_HH2K on 21 May 2009 10:26 AM.
Once upon a time in Sydney and its suburbs, there used to be many more post boxes. Now that there are so many private enterprise post offices, and the Australia Post of old is no more, many street boxes are disappearing, and we are forced to trudge to a post office to deposit letters, albeit outside the said building.
Bah! Humbug! Modern life is rarely convenient! IMHO. Posted by Rev.Dr.Wu Yi on 21 May 2009 1:39 PM.
Well, why bother setting up (or keeping) post boxes all around? Although it is still required for many documents' delivery, telecommunication is the new way for communicating, which, without a doubt, is much more convenient. I highly doubt Rev. Dr. Wu Yi would be patiently enough to wait one week for me to reply to one of his messages.
