Sydney CBD blackout AGAIN

Just few days ago that I mentioned the power was cut in Sydney CBD. The electricity in Sydney CBD has once again blackout within the very same week. This clearly demonstrates extremely unreliable of power supply in Sydney. (Rev. Dr. Wu Yi, I believe I do not need to address more.)

50,000 homes without power Second major cable failure this week NSW Premier angry, demands answers

Sydney's power is not as reliable as beautiful Boston's.

To keep your appliances and gadgets safe, some rated surge protectors are highly recommended. The poor Antony does not have a power generator. (to Don: Antony is poor.)

News source: Major cable fault causes second Sydney blackout in a week (NEWS.com.au, 4 April, 2009 11:30am)

NSW PREMIER Nathan Rees has vented his frustration as the second blackout to hit the Sydney CBD in a week left more than 50,000 homes without power this morning.

The public was urged to avoid Sydney's CBD as another cable failure disabled more than 50 sets of traffic lights, blacked out parts of the CBD and surrounding suburbs, trapped people in lifts and closed the Sydney Harbour Tunnel.

"I want to get to the bottom of this," an angry Mr Rees said. "It's not good enough.''

"I was told the other day that the chances of this happening again were one in a million, so I am seriously unhappy.''

He said he had spoken to NSW Energy Minister Ian Macdonald and they were trying to establish what had gone wrong.

Power was restored to the affected area around midday as emergency services were scattered throughout the CBD responding to reports of people being stuck in lifts.

"The cause is currently unknown," NSW Police said.

EnergyAustralia spokeswoman Kylie Yates said that the failure was not caused by the same cable that failed on Monday.

That faulty cable was being repaired, Ms Yates said.

On Monday, 70,000 homes and businesses were plunged into darkness, causing peak-hour chaos, closing major road links, and again leaving people stranded in lifts.

Some 140 sets of traffic lights were blacked out, with police directing traffic at 40 of them.

Power was restored within two hours, but not before the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) was forced to close two of the busiest roads out of the city - the Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Distributor - around 5.45pm (AEDT).

Can you imagine how things will be when the State Govt sells off the power grid to private enterprise?
Currently it is a not for profit public utility, once profit becomes the motive for supply, prices will soar, and essential maintenance will be ignored until some catastrophe arises.
Auckland N.Z was a prime example of private enterprise not caring, when an entire modern city was without power for 3 or so weeks! May have been longer.

The original Massachusetts Electric was sold off to a private firm (NEEScom) awhile ago. They're generally been pretty good with service, though, since the lines have to undergo emergency repair every winter due to snow damage.
NEEScom actually got bought out by National Grid, the electricity distributor in the United Kingdom. They apparently made enough profits from that deal to buy out Keyspan (the natural gas company) a few years later. Strangely enough, my bank was also bought out by the Royal Bank of Scotland...

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
You missed out the point. The point is that Sydney's electricity is not as reliable as in Boston.

This obsession with Boston is very creepy Antony.
See if you can find a therapist who also doesn't speak English, and have it out with him/her!
I mean that in the nicest possible way. ;-)

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
This is nothing to do with obsession. It is important to let Don know that how lucky he is living in beautiful Boston.

Antony:
I think DON would realise, one way or the other, the virtues or otherwise of living in Boston.
He doesn't need constant repetition from you.
It might have been funny ONCE! But now it is bordering on psychosis!
See your shrink soon!
I mean this in the nicest possible way. ;-)

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
The problem lies in the fact that Don does not know (or refuses to acknowledge) how nice and how beautiful Boston is.

The problem lies in the fact that you are a real twonk, and won't let sleeping dogs lie!
Try not to end a sentence with a preposition!

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
Did you take wrong medicine again? Or wrong dosage?
