the Remote Village in Tasmania?

the RV sign

What does the “RV” mean in the sign above? “Remote Village” perhaps?

After posting the entry of yesterday's Telstra PrePaid Wireless Broadband entry, Laurent and I stayed in Southport for one night. There are a few “RV” signs around, and Southport is perhaps really a remote village. No mobile connections from any service providers.

Which also means no internet for Laurent and I for one night. All other places we've been visited have at least mobile and internet coverage from Telstra network.

Since I am not super-concerned about the location (and time) I visited, I decided to do everybody a favour, pointing out where Southport is.

We are staying in Huonville tonight, good to be somewhere where mobile phone (Vodafone) works and can get wireless broadband (Telstra).

Again, broadband and Wi-Fi is not as easily available as in beautiful Boston. I can't do much about that.

Recreational Vehicle, maybe?
Well, that's why you need a bigger antenna. You complained to me that the external antenna on my computer ruined the look, but it beats the alternative of no service.

Thank you Don, I would wish I could speak English.
Well, in a places that has absolutely no mobile phone coverage (sans expensive Satellite phone) and hardly anyone lives there, I doubt the broadband connection (wired) connection would be available. Furthermore, internet is expensive (compared to US at least), I doubt that many people would leave their network open for long.

Umm.. yeah, it's for Recreational Vehicles. And you could always go without the interent for a couple of hours. Trust me, I went without it (full access) for a couple of MONTHS.

It could have only been a remote village Antony if you found some "tied-up" chickens or a chapter of the "Donkey Express", operating in the local area.
Otherwise, it probably meant, "Roadside Victim", where the bodies of mainland tourists were found slain!!

Obviously, we can't afford the Recreational Vehicle, and Antony does not speak English.
Perhaps Southport does not qualify the "Remote Village", but it is certainly in the very bottom of Australia, the stop before Antarctic (the southen-est town). Bottom of nowhere.

"Most southern town" Antony, is what you meant!

Thanks Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
Antony does not speak English.
