free service from government

free CBD Shuttle Bus

There's a great news for shoppers or those who enjoy window shopping (like the poor Antony).

cbdshuttle_map.jpgStarting yesterday, the NSW Government is providing free Sydney CBD Shuttle Bus, route number 555. Completely free of charges for Sydneysiders and shoppers. The service runs every 10 minutes from Central Station to Circular Quay and back, via Elizabeth and George streets (both ways). The service runs 9.30am to 3.30pm weekdays, and 9.30am to 6pm during weekends. And during the most important late night shopping (Thursdays), it runs until 9pm.

A good service to boost up shoppers to go around Sydney CBD? According to 7News, this service will cost the government $3M a year.

You can download the route map here.

Please read this as: "this service will cost the tax payer $3M a year."
The NSW Govt couldn't find its own political arse with both hands!!
There are no "freebies" from that mob!!

Yes, nothing is really free. However, it is free for all visitors as well.
That money is better spent on this free CBD shuttle bus then providing annoying school kids free public transports. Those annoying school kids do nothing be screaming in the bus, if I forgot to avoid the after school time.

I've heard that here in Boston, they're contemplating raising the price of train fare from $1.70 to $2.00 for the people that bought passes, and from $2.00 to $2.30 or $2.50 for people that walk into the station without a pass. The same will probably go for buses - from $1.25 to $1.50 for people with passes and from $1.50 to $1.75 for people without.
I certainly wouldn't mind being able to take the Red Line home for free...

Quite a number of years ago, during my first visit to New York City, a subway token was about 20cents!!
Sydney's general fares are about the same as yours, when converted into $AUD.
