Apple releases new iPods, return of Xena

Apple today held a special event and announced new iPod touch (2nd generation, MacCentre701 article), new iPod nano (4th generation, MacCentre701 article) as well as iTunes 8. My iPod touch (32GB, personalised) bought in March this year is no longer the latest generation. Well, that is not a worry to me, since I am not one of the open-source extremists who demand everything the best and the latest. I have an iPhone 3G, the 16GB model, I don't think I really need the iPod touch.

iTunes 8.0 features Genius playlist. I haven't got much time to play with it yet. Another feature of iTunes 8.0 is the support of HD TV shows from ABC, NBC, and Showtime networks. That translates to Desperate Housewives is now available from iTunes Store in High Definition for just $1 more.

After being absent for nearly a year, NBC Universal returns to iTunes Store today. The good thing about this? Heroes, The Office, Battlestar Galactica, 30 Rock (and more) are now available in iTunes Store. But I am more interested is the return of Xena: Warrior Princess.

Apple also releases iPod touch software 2.1 today (free for software 2.0 users). I will get that installed on my iPod touch later. (I am off to have my dinner in Ichi-ban Boshi tonight.)

I am slightly disappointed that there were no updates on Mac mini and Apple TV. Apple recently dropped the price of Apple TV in Australia with the release of Movie downloads in Australian iTunes Store.
