tomato rose and chicken talk

Tomato Rose

Paris International Cooking SchoolToday is Wednesday, and you probably guessed what I would mention in today's blog. This afternoon, I prepared three dishes as part of Laurent's Express and Tasty Cooking Class.

Here are the photos from my Express and Tasty Cooking. Unlike last week, I did not use my soft box light tent, just black background. You might notice some blue tint in a few photos, it was due to incandescent lighting (halogen lamps) combined with outdoor lighting (sun light). I was a bit lazy to block the light.

Express Quiche

(As usual, more photos follow ... )

Garden Salad with French Dressing

Cherries Jubilee

The dishes are:

Cherries Jubilee

Today's dishes are easier compared to previous weeks. I am not a big fan of Garden Salad myself, I prefer the Caesar Salad from Woolworths Supermarket. Since I made French Dressing this afternoon, I now have a good reason to avoid French Dressing. It is made of one portion of red wine vinegar to three portions of salad oil. I am not keen on on vinegar, and 3 portions of oil means fat. No comments about the Cherries Jubilee, since I don't like cherries.

And this is the best tomato rose I've ever made. Here's another photo of it.

Perhaps Rev. Dr. Wu Yi knows quite a fair bit of general knowledge, but he probably does not know that free range chicken eggs are more ‘orange’ than regular (aka Home Brand) chicken eggs. I am referring to the yolk part. Also, under normal (or nature I shall say), a chicken would lay about 5-6 eggs in one week. And once the eggs were laid, you have to wait 3 days before you can eat them. Of course, nowadays many chicken farms would speed up the chicken laying process by shortening the day and night time for them.

Well, Laurent does not have square bowls for me to take photos.

Stop trying to teach your granny how to suck eggs!!
Of course I know that free range eggs always have more golden yolks, because the chickens were content and could roam around where they pleased, unlike the tied-up chicken practices of most of the remote villagers!
And you are right, the food looks less apetising on the round plates.

No, I was trying to teach an old dog new tricks.
Actually, you were wrong about the remote village. Tied-up chickens were happier and do more exercise (within the radius of the string) as they know very well that area confined by the string is very safe. No need to worry about the attacks by coyotes.
