disgraceful NSW Police decision

I was shocked when I heard the headline news last night. An innocent man was locked up for two days because Police made a mistake and identity and Police also refused to verify victim's story/fact.

(Left: CCTT footage released by Police with wrong identity. Right: Mr Joey de Mesa in an interview with 7 News last night.)

What happened?
Disgraceful NSW Police releases CCTV footage to media, and seeking help. Except the photo in the CCTV was wrongly identified.
Law-abiding citizen Mr Joey de Mesa went to police station to clear his name voluntarily. Instead of listening to or verifying Mr de Mesa's statement, the disgraceful police interrogated him, strip searched him twice, then locked him up straight away.
Disgraceful NSW Police did not make any apology. (at time of writing this entry)

The law-abiding Mr de Mesa was released after two days of unnecessary jail time.

People do make mistakes, including NSW Police. However, disgraceful NSW Police Force refuses to offer an apology, but decided to defend they wrong action.
Shame on you!

Law-abiding citizen Mr Joey de Mesa was still being referred to as “a potential serial sex offender” by Det Supt John Kerlatec after DNA evidenced cleared Mr de Mesa. No apologies were given by police.

It seems like police is the last place to clear yourself if you were a victim of mistaken identity. And if the disgraceful police made a mistake, they were unlikely to apology, and innocent law-abiding citizens are likely to get unwanted interrogated, strip searched, then locked up and charged (even without proper evidence).
