WYD to be worse than APEC

Police with excessive power

Remember this?

Paula Bronstein being pushed to the ground by disgraceful police

During last year's APEC summit, (thanks to the visit of US President), NSW Police enjoyed the unprecedented untouchable power. NSW Police could do pretty much anything they want that they never enjoyed before. It will be worse during World Youth Day (WYD). The upcoming World Youth Day (15 - 20 July 2008), they will be given even more power.

How bad will the special powers be? (Or how enjoyable for power greedy police?) Youth Day laws 'worse than for APEC'

Under the laws, police will be able to direct people to stop conduct which "causes annoyance or inconvenience to participants in a World Youth Day event".

"These laws give absolute discretion to authorised persons, which include police and volunteers who haven't received appropriate training, to give directions to the members of public if they think that the member of the public is annoying," council spokesman Stephen Blanks said.

"And the penalty for failing to follow a direction is $5500, which is just disproportionate."

And guess what? Those powers were imposed by the Government regulation but too shame to go through Parliament. In plain words, those powers were created for those who enjoy powers without any public scrutiny.

The power greedy NSW Police certainly enjoyed the power a lot, and they of course want it again whenever there's an excuse.

The Honourable NSW Premier Morris Iemma promised that APEC Police Powers was a once-off thing. Clearly, it was a lie. When can people trust politicians?

Power greedy police. Shame on you! The Premier who can't keep his own words also assigns more power, Shame on you!

Bugger! You are back on your "big bad police" rant again!
If you had been personally abused by the police I could understand, please get over this! All those annoying Catholics need a good beating anyway and anyone else espousing fatuous religious nonsense!

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
This is not the first time police should be shamed.
