13 June, 2008Sony Bravia LCD TVAs mentioned on Tuesday, the new television has arrived today this lucky Friday the thirteenth at 4:15 pm. It is big (to me anyway), and the picture quality (HDTV) is amazing. Much much better than previous CRT TV (30-something inches, as shown in photo below). Without further ado, here are the photos and the specs of this new TV. Starting with the important box. (more photos and specs follow...) Laurent and I have been looking for a TV for quite a while. He wants something really big, but I am more into full HD resolution and using LCD instead of Plasma (to save energy). So we compromised on full-HD LCD but 52-inch. (Sorry Rev. Dr. Wu Yi, it is slightly larger than your Sharp TV.) (Sorry Don, this TV is just an incy wincy teeny weeny bit larger than yours.) Why Sony? Well we both first saw a Sony Bravia LCD TV up close in the recently held texas holdem poker tournament near my office and from then on, we (well at least me) were convinced it's inevitable that one of them will grace our living room. For the comparison, here's is the old 30-something inches CRT TV. The most irritating part of this television is simply NO remote controls. Very annoying trust me. And the new Sony Bravia 52-inch W series LCD TV (KDL52W3100) The quick specs of Sony Bravia LCD TV W Series:
Well, on Monday night, I will be able to say: There are still a few items I need to get tomorrow: a splitter so Laurent can record TV shows. A component cable set so we can enjoy better DVD quality. A Sony PlayStation 3 for playing back Blu-Ray? Still deciding. An Apple TV to link Laurent's and my iTunes libraries? Very likely, but still deciding. (To Don: Antony is poor, he does not have HDMI cables nor a Blu-ray player.) Related blog entry: should I get a PlayStation 3 for Blu-ray playback? (SillyDog701 Message Centre) more June 2008 blogs. Congratulations and welcome to the 21st Century of visual entertainment. I am happy with our 42" Sharp Full HD LCD TV. If I had a 52", I would have to open the kitchen window and view it from the outside via the side passage of our house.( The viewing room being too small )

Thanks Rev Dr Wu Yi.
I suggested you to put your huge Sharp full HD LCD TV in your living room (or middle room, whatever it is called).

Those who reside in coastal cities should beware before purchasing Sony product. Sony does not design their products for withstanding moisture levels prevalent in coastal places in India.
I purchased Bravia Model No. KLV-32S200A in October 2006. It went bust in July 2009. The authorized service center informed me that the inside panels are corroded. When I took up the matter with the customer care, I was informed that due to moisture in the air, the panels were corroded.
I stay 800 Meters from the coast in Visakhapatnam. Considering the distance, the moisture levels are normal. My earlier TVs Thomson, BPL and Konark served me more than 10years each.
This clearly shows that Sony products are not good in coastal places. So people should beware.
