the golden rules

On Wednesday night, Laurent had a Potatoes Workshop cooking demo in Glenquarie Library, I went there with him. I couldn't stop myself noticing the Golden Rules in Glenquarie Neighbourhood Centre.

The Golden Rules

A very nice set of rules in my opinion. Except number 2. You don't switch off the light! It is fine to leave the lights on. There are many benefits of leaving the lights on, for example, leaving the lights on can prevent other people from tripping or hit the wall in the dark.

After the potatoes workshop demo, we visited Honeybear before coming back to Sydney. Originally Honeybear intended to move to Western Australia, but they found a place in Ingleburn. I did not visit Honeybear empty handed, I brought his favourite Dine food.

(Both Glenquarie Library in Macquarie Fields and Ingleburn are in Campbelltown area. A bit far to drive, but it is worth to see Honeybear.)

I personally try to shut off lights whenever possible, to save energy. This holds true especially with incandescent bulbs, since they draw more power than CFLs or LEDs, and that CFLs actually draw more power when starting up again after being switched off.
Better yet, you could always do what I do, and open the window during the daytime to get completely free lighting. =D

See Antony, Don displays a mature attitude toward energy use and saving. We are all partners in saving the planet except you it seems? =)

Rev. Dr. Wu Yi,
I know you can see light as electricity being used, but you save electricity/money on other appliances, not on lighting. Light (new energy saving ones) do not use that much energy.
There are lots of appliances that use lots more electricity than lighting except you can't really *see* the electricity being used. This is 21st century, and you need know that things you don't see cost more!
I will do the math for you next time. (You need to get your remote village brain updated, Reverend.

Yes, we should turn off our refrigerators and all those red and green standby lights on all our electronics. Aside from that, there is nothing else that I can't "see" using my electricity.
