3G iPhone is finally coming to Australia?

iPhoneAccording to ‘a totally unverified news’ from MacTalk Australia (formally AppleTalk Australia), Apple will sell an unlocked 3G iPhone, which will work on any Australian carrier, from the last week of June, 2008.

MacTalk Australia said that resellers have been informed that iPhone will be released during the last week of June, and there will be more than one carrier, and no contract lock in. Current Apple resellers will be able to sell iPhones. Sounds like an exciting news to me.

iPhoneCould it be true, or is it all just a massive traffic-grabbig hoax? To me, I will consider this is "rumour" at this stage, and wait for official announcement. However, I will start saving money for the iPhone I suppose.

If the news is true, then you guys are lucky. The rest of the world wants an unlocked iPhone; hopefully they won't region-lock it so that an Australian iPhone won't sync up with an iTunes not affiliated with a non-Australian iTunes Store.

Just a week ago,in Pattaya Thailand, unlocked 3G phones were being sold by enterprising unauthorised dealers in 4GB and 8GB models,imported from the US.
