Australia has formally apologised to the stolen generations (Aborigines) on 13th February 2008.
“We apologise for the indignity and degradation and the humiliation these laws embodied. We offer this apology to the mothers, the fathers, the brothers, the sisters, the families and the communities whose lives were ripped apart by the actions of successive governments.

PM Kevin Rudd's speech received a standing ovation. As for opposition leader Brendan Nelson, people turned their backs to his speech.
Former prime ministers Paul Keating, Bob Hawke, Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser and Sir William Deane except John Howard were all seated on the floor of the Parliament as well as 17 people representing the stolen generation.
For the record, former PM John Howard said sorry to Aboriginals, but he insisted he was only sorry for what had happened, not apologetic.

Mackay (Queensland) was flooded after a surprise torrential downpour. Roads, schools and businesses were all closed, homes swamped.
