Samantha Who?

Samantha Who?I watched the Pilot episode of Samantha Who? last week, although not as funny as Will & Grace, but I found it quite interesting so far. I will give it another go tonight to decide if I will keep watching the show or not.

The show is about a bad girl Samantha (Christina Applegate) wakes from an eight-day coma and can't remember anything about her past, such as the boyfriend she's cheating on, the parents she hasn't talked to in years, or the friend she ditched years ago. The more blanks they fill in, the less Samantha likes who she used to be.

Tonight on Samantha Who? (The Job, series 1 episode 2)

In one quick morning, Samantha discovers a handful of surprising things about her old self - not least of which is what she does for a living. When a board meeting offers a glimpse into her cutthroat and competitive workaholic former self, Sam is once again faced with questions concerning her true self.

Samantha Who? is on Channel 7 at 8pm, followed by series return of Grey's Anatomy.

NineMSN's TVFix (yourTV.com.au) has a review on Samantha Who?

After slumming it in family-friendly territory with the woefully sub-standard sitcom Jesse, Christina Applegate looks to have found material worthy of her talents.

Samantha Who? is classic situation comedy fare, where the situation is this: a woman wakes up with no memory of her past. Yep, it's the old amnesia hook. But thankfully, the show doesn't hang itself on it. Instead, the characters and performances are what make this offering a winner.

Christina Applegate stars as Samantha Newly, the sleeping beauty who wakes to discover she knows nothing of her life... or herself. "Who-am-I" questions come up pretty quickly as Sam collects the cliff notes of her life from the people who know her best - a list that ranges from estranged parents to surly doormen.

Despite it being early days, Applegate inhabits her character so naturally the viewer feels she's the lost Sam. Applegate's flawless timing is equally matched by that of Jean Smart as Sam's mother Regina, and Jennifer Esposito as Sam's best friend Andrea. The rest of cast are solid in their parts as well, but these three pretty well leave them in the dust.

The premise isn't original, but its execution is classy. Pitched at a tone measured enough to be light but not so airy that it's forgettable, Samantha Who? manages to instantly endear.

Kicking off Seven's assault on prime time, Samantha Who? looks to be a likely contender to draw audiences.

Samantha Who? airs on Network Seven on Sunday, February 10, at 8pm.

Samantha Who?You can download Samantha Who? legally from iTunes Store for only $1.99 per episode. Or $17.91 for entire season 1.
