a new Prime Minister is born
Australia has a new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd from Labor party, Australia's 26th Prime Minister.
John Howard congratulates Kevin Rudd for ‘emphatic’ victory at 10.36pm tonight. John Howard says he's left nation ‘proud & prosperous’. John Howard has been Prime Minister of Australia for 4 terms (11 1/2 years).
“I want to thank all those people in Australia who have placed their trust in me and my team,” Mr Rudd said in Brisbane just after 11pm, claiming victory.
John Howard might have lost his Bennelong seat in the parliament to Maxine McKew (Labor); the marginal electorate that made the headline in last few days - Lindsay - chose Labor's David Bradbury. (The bogus pamphlet failed to achieve what it intended.)
Mr. John Howard concedes:
US President Mr George W. Bush might not like the news. And you can read all the news about the new government in tomorrow's television and newspaper.
