only one more sleep to go

Leopard boxYes, only one more sleep to go until the worldwide release of Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. As mentioned earlier, tomorrow, I will go to Academy Store (Apple Premium Reseller) in Bondi Junction for the lunch party and attending the Presentations and Workshops.

To be honest, I am not 100% ready for Leopard installation (at time of writing). Upgrading from Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" to 10.5 "Leopard" is a major upgrade, although it is unlikely you would screw up your Mac as in Windows, it is still better safe than sorry.

What I plan to do is to back up all my personal files to an external hard drive and some will burn to DVDs. (It is always a good time to make backups.) If you feel like that you have the need to make entire backup of your Mac's hard drive, Carbon Copy Cloner is a great tool.

The system requirements for installing Leopard are: a Mac computer with at least 867MHz G4 processor, G5 processor, or Intel processor, at least 512MB RAM, 9GB of free hard drive space, and a DVD drive for installation. If you want plan to use Leopard's Time Machine feature to back up the data on your Mac, you will need to have an extra hard drive. (That is a requirement.) I personally have quite a few external HDDs, as Don knows.

Apple states that installing Mac OS X 10.5 can be simply installing on top of user's current system. However, if your current Mac OS X installation is already having problems, or there are plenty of hacks, you might want to choose a different installation option such as Archive and Install or Erase and Install.

I recommend backing up all your personal files before installing.

I still have lots of backups to do.
