If you are an Australian citizen and aged 18 or older, you are required to vote, and voting is sadly compulsory by law. If you choose not to vote and do not have sufficient reason, you may be faced with up to $50 fine plus court costs, according to AEC (Australian Electoral Commission). Yes, the AEC threatened you with $50 fine plus court costs, however AEC did not state what ware sufficient reasons.
