disgraceful teaching discipline?

I saw following video from Mr Whitfield's one blog entry How to Maintain Classroom discipline (1947). He was an English teacher (perhaps still is).

You only need to watch the first 5 minutes 40 seconds.

Mr Whitfield stated, “Not all of it is irrelevant sixty years later... Groundhog Day! Really! To be honest, I have been Mr Grimes I as well as Mr Grimes II -- but never in Maths, of course.

What was wrong with Mr Grimes (and Mr Whitfield admitted he did so)? Pray allow me to list:
1. Giving students negative feeling about themselves. ("This is the poorest class I've had for a long long time.") Some students might become extremely depressed and perhaps have a thought about suicide.
2. Issuing detentions at will without proper justification. This may sadly be allowed, however extremely unethical, and deplorable without a doubt.
3. Threatening students with the possibilities of repeating the class. Playing the threatening game? Geez.
4. Prohibiting students from sneezing? That was an educator without a heart to his/her students. The teacher who disallow students from sneezing should be sued and shamed.

If this teacher was teaching in a public school (in plain words: taxpayer-funded school), all those disgraceful and unethical disciplines should be condemned publicly.

I commented in Mr Whitfield's blog entry, and he responded.

Thanks for the reference, Antony, but I would urge your readers to watch the whole video as the point of it is to show why the first part is what not to do. My point was that all of us at times are guilty of falling short of best practice on occasions, not that this is good, but that none of us is always perfect. As for the public/private school issue, I have taught in both kinds. Good Mr Grimes and bad Mr Grimes may be found pretty much in any school. (Second attempt at comment.)
