Epson Inkjet and PrintOn DVD/CDs

I bought an Epson inkjet printer on 10th March this year. (see previous blog entry) The sole purpose for that Epson inkjet printer (Stylus Photo R230) was to print on CD/DVDs (direct print). And I did use it for such task, of course I tested it out on photo printing and others, the quality on photo paper is impressive. Without a doubt, the colour was bright.

Since I bought the EyeTV, a TV capture card for Mac, I've been recording TV shows. (Before you ask, I don't use P2P or BitTorrent for leeching TV shows. I record TV shows myself or buy them from iTunes Store.)

Here's a photo of DVD prints I made with Epson Stylus Photo R230.

The blank CD and DVD media I use are TDK PrintOn DVD and TDK PrintOn CD-R.

If you want to make an impressive CD/DVD, you need to give it a good labelling. Using labelling kit (stickers) is yesterday's technology and it's hard to make it look nice. The better solution (for home users): print directly on CD/DVD media or use LightScribe media.
To print on CD/DVD directly, you will need to get media that is printable such as TDK's PrintOn media and a capable inkjet printer. Alternatively, you can get a special LightScribe discs which requires special LightScribe-enabled optical drive (burners).

Epson Stylus Photo R230 uses 6 inks, and last week, I run out yellow ink. I had to get the ink. It turns out that I am not the person that would use refills, so I searched for the cheapest genuine Epson ink. The average street price is AU$19 to AU$22 per ink, but I found a great deal... 6 colours for AU$96, plus a bonus Epson Glossy Photo Paper (50 pack). It seems to be a great deal for me, since all other colours are running low.

I don't think I will use the bonus Photo Paper, but I guess I can sell it on eBay.
