Criminal Minds returns tonight

Last Monday's season final of Desperate Housewives was great. Tonight, Channel Seven will air movie-length (two hours) of Criminal Minds. The series returns tonight!

Criminal Minds

Tonight on Criminal Minds (The Fisher King part 1 and 2):

Special Agent Jason Gideon and the Behavioural Analysis Unit (BAU) become pawns in the fantasy game of a psychopathic killer. Each member of the team is challenged with a cryptic riddle while on their respective vacations. The team then reconvene at BAU headquarters to track down the culprit before the next victim is claimed.

yourTV has following article on the series return of Criminal Minds.

This series gets off on the right foot with a gripping season return that will hook fans of deadly cat-and-mouse dramas.

This two-part special begins with the elite FBI profilers off on vacation. Viewers soon realise it won't be long before the members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit are put back to work, after they begin receiving anonymous phone calls and harrowing clues. Their holidays prematurely ended, the team becomes tangled in a psychopathic game with a criminal.

After receiving footage of a young girl shackled to a bed, the team begins to decipher the cryptic clues and parcels they've been sent. The psychopath also gives the team one binding rule - only the BAU can participate in the "quest" to save the girl. Breaking this rule proves to have serious consequences, leaving one of the team's lives hanging in the balance.

Luckily for Australian viewers the cliffhanger doesn't spread across two seasons like it did in the US, and the answers come thick and fast in the second half of this double episode. The victim's history is uncovered, and as the pieces begin to fall into place, the medieval underpinnings of the case begin to have a heavy significance.

This movie-length special has flavourings of Saw and Se7en, and although it has moments of predictability it will nevertheless draw in viewers.

The season return airs on the back of news that leading man Mandy Patinkin, who plays profiling whiz Jason Gideon, has departed the show because of "creative differences". A shame, because he could do a lot worse than Criminal Minds.

Criminal Minds returns to the Seven Network: Monday, July 23, 8.30pm.

Criminal Minds starts at 8.30pm on Channel Seven.
