A while back, I made a comparison on print output. The comparison was between Epson Stylus Photo R230 and Brother MFC-240C on plain paper. Later I printed the same picture on photo paper with respected settings again, (see this entry). The results were clear, Epson produces better quality than Brother, however, the Epson inkjet printer was a “Photo” printer and it uses 6 colours, whereas the Brother was a multi-function printer and only uses 4 colours.

I than make a comparison on plain paper for all three printers I have.

This is the output comparison on regular paper (A4). From left to right, Brother MFC-240C, Epson Stylus Photo R230 (inkjet), Epson AcuLaser C1100N (laser).

It is probably hard to tell the difference between the output of Epson inkjet and Epson laser from the picture above. An unresized photo is available here in case someone is interested.

In plain paper, the output from laser seems to be better than from inkjet printer, noticeable but not by a huge difference. Also, the plain paper (printed with inkjet) tends to get curly, even that I store it in display sleeves. This problem does not happen to plain paper printed by laser printer. The output is even better if printed on photo paper (with 6-colour Epson inkjet printer).
