Inkwell and Antony's handwriting in action

Inkwell

Okay, I must admit that I was bored. I recorded my handwriting in action.

A while back, I bought a second hand Wacom Graphire 3 tablet (6x8) which works great except I haven't used it much. So I plugged into my new iMac, and decided to play with it.

There are a few things about Mac OS X I have to mention.

  1. Mac OS X is smart, there are a few options hidden by default, and will be shown only have you need it or you have the device.
  2. There's a built-in Inkwell which is not that well known.

If you want to know how smart Mac OS X, you can see this thread.

(a short video of my handwriting follows)

Once you plugged a tablet into your Mac, System Preferences will show an “Ink” option, it for Inkwell. You can use your tablet instead of your keyboard and mouse for typing (writing), drawing, and controlling windows with Mac OS X's Inkwell.

Ink in System Preferences

One of the important features of Inkwell is handwriting recognition. I have a short demo of OS X's built-in recognition.

It recognised my handwriting very well.

QuickTime Player 5.02 or later required to watch the movie.

Neat! It's sort of silly the Inkwell feature is completely hidden until the tablet is plugged in. Have you tried writing things of any length with Inkwell? Documents?
