AppleTalk AU hacked?

MacTalk hacked

AppleTalk Australia (now called "MacTalk Australia") was reportedly hacked recently. I could not visit visit their site yesterday morning, and yet again not this morning. Last night, I was able to visit MacTalk Australia, and iSlayer described that the site was hacked due to Invision Power Board not being safe. However, a member pointed out that MacTalk AU was using an old version of Invision Power Board.

Recall from my memory, iSlayer said that it was fixed last night, and they've implemented additional security to the admin panel access. It seems to me, they were hacked again.

Personally, I have no idea why they use an old version of Invision Power Board. If I remember correctly, in the past there are a few members in AppleTalk AU suggesting that phpBB is very buggy.

On 21 December 2004, iSlayer (was a moderator, now an Admin) said

and i also say that professional sites shouldn't use phpbb.
there is a reason its free :)

(for that particular issue, it was the security hole in phpBB made the news, but Invision Power Board was also affected.
On 10th July 2005, iSlayer also said:
i personally wouldnt recommend any version of invision or phpbb considering how many security issues there have been with both over the last year

Well, iSlayer did mention that Invision Power Board was not safe, but why is it still being used (until today)?

SillyDog701 Message Centre has been running on phpBB with a number of private security enhancements. It hasn't been hacked so far, I guess we are lucky. We do encounter hacking attempt from time to time, but the only success was when SillyDog701 was hosted with BlueVirtual and it was due to Linux they used. (Almost all their customers' sites were defaced.)

I won't say phpBB is safe, but I have to thank Juha-Matti Laurio, a security expert, constantly informing me about the latest security vulnerability and patches. It is important to install security patches as it seems.

According to MacTalk Development Blog, MacTalk Australia is switching from Invision Power Board to vBulletin. And I have no idea why they put an Asian face for the website was down message.

Feel like to chat in a Mac message board?
Whirlpool's Mac section is always open, as well as SillyDog701 Message Centre.
