Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Yesterday I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It was a great movie! Thanks to Channel Seven, they aired Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (the first one) on Sunday to refresh my memory.

One of the interesting quotes from The Curse of the Black Pearl is
I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means no.

I don't think I need to repeat or spoil you on the content of Pirates movies, except both are great. And there's something interesting.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest sold $11.2 million worth of tickets between Thursday and Sunday night -- a record in a period when cinemas are supposed to be in a slump. Pirates 2 opened bigger than The Da Vinci Code (which made $8.6 million in its first four days) and Superman Returns ($5.3m). It's the best opening since May, 2005, when Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith scored $13.4m.

Pirates of the Caribbean was seen by 2.6 million Australians when shown at the cinema in 2003. It became the No. 9 bestselling disk of all time when released on DVD in 2004.

The record in the States:
- highest 3-day opening (US$135.7 million) in box office history
- first film in box office history to pass US$100 million in only two days ($100.2 million in 2 days)
- friday's opening gross (US$55.5 million) is the highest single-day gross in box office history.

I loved this movie! I don't understand why the critics panned it so much. Yes, it is long. Yes, the story line confused me and I think I'll have to see it again to get it straight. But who cares? It was FUN. Lots of action. Great special effects. Johnny Depp was brilliant. Could watch him all day playing that role.
