Windows users: don't occupy entire screen!

Windows users are commonly using all programs in full screen windows. Ironically, Windows users don’t really use “windows”.

And I can't agree any less.

Recently I slightly modified the layout of SillyDog701 Message Centre. I only changed the front door of it, from <table ... width"100%" ... > to <table ... width"750" ... >. Yes, I use width="750" (750 pixel) wide as my design guideline.

What do I use 750 pixels wide? Simply, I hate horizontal scrolling, and I don't see the need to enforce everybody to open their browser window at maximum. Plus I highly doubt many Windows users use wide format screen.

This is the screenshot (scaled down) of SD701 Message Centre at a window opened at approximately 800 pixel wide.

Without a doubt I received some complaints. They complained that the white part in the middle is gone, and it's weird to leave space on the right. (What?)

Let me show you a screenshot (scaled down) under a browser window opened at approximately 1024 pixel wide.

Just to demonstrator if I listen to them and keep elements aligned to both sides:
This is what it would have looked like under Apple Cinema Display (20 inches).

Do Windows users always assume other people have the same setting as them? And everybody opens the window at maximum? They should learn to use “windows”, and leave some room for other stuff, even if their screen has resolution of 1024 by 768, opening browser windows (and actually any application) at around 800 pixels wide is a good choice, so you can see other stuff from different window.

It is be design style. Pages must look like great in all resolutions. And if i have a time i use different design for different windows.
