I bought MovableType

Today, I purchased unlimited license of MovableType. It's very easy to upgrade and the configuration is very straight forward.

Why do I upgrade from 2.66 to MovableType 3.x? Well, MovableType 2.xx was a great system, it powered SillyDog701, MozInfo701 and MacCentre701 as well as this blog for me. It works great, and I really like it. In particular, MozInfo701 has multi-authors, MovableType is just the right tool for SillyDog701 to publish news.

When SixApart changed the license of MovableType to a charged version, a lot of people dumped MovableType and switched to WordPress. For mainly two reasons: money and open-source.

Firstly, a free version of MovableType is still available, and you can still do a lot with free version of MovableType. But many people feel that they would lost a lot with that free version.
Next, there are a group of people who much use everything that's open-source or GPL license. They just don't know if everything is free, no programmers can survive. And I am not a free-source supporter. I believe paying for good software/service is reasonable, hence I pay for unlimited license of MovableType.

Mark Pilgrim has an interesting writing, which I believe many WordPress switchers agree with him. He kept repeating that was not due to licensing issue (money), but in my opinion, the entire article is still about money.
