not Desperate enough?

Last Monday's season finale of Desperate Housewives scored 2.29 million viewers, making it the second highest ratings of the year. The top one was the finale of Seven's Dancing with the Stars (2.33 millions).

The problem? Channel Seven tricked viewers to watch other show. Channel Seven screened 24 and a special interview of Housewives crews on the regular Housewives time slot, I as one of the Housewives fan was certainly not happy about channel Seven's tactic.

Desperate Housewives has an averaging rating of 2.13 millions with 2.48 million for the season premiere (and 1.1 million for the repeat of the premiere the following night) in Australia's five capital cities.

Based on Desperate for more (News.com.au, 10 Aug 2005)

From Desperate for more (News.com.au, 10 Aug 2005):

WHEN is an audience of 2.29 million a minor disappointment?

When it is a screening of the cliffhanger episode of the smash hit black comedy, Desperate Housewives.
On Monday night the final episode of its first series, starring Teri Hartcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross, grabbed the second highest ratings of the year, officially.

Only the finale of Seven's Dancing With The Stars, with 2.33 million viewers in the five capital cities, can top it thus far this year.

But unofficially, the February premiere of Desperate Housewives earned the highest non-sports event ratings of the year, when 2.48 million tuned in, as well as another 1.1 million for the repeat showing the following night. However, it screened a week before the official ratings season.

Seven was far from disappointed with Monday's results.

And Desperate Housewives ' weekly average audience of 2.13 million is impressive, ensuring it will be the year's most popular series.
But some flamboyant scheduling and poorer quality episodes in its final weeks chipped away at the potential audience for the barnstorming cliffhanger.
