AntCam701 online with QuickTime

AntCam701 was online today with the web's best streaming technology... using QuickTime Streaming.

A few weeks ago, I tested the AntCam701 with EvoCam. EvoCam provides easy setup with two ways of viewing webcam, in JavaApplet or HTML refreshed pages. Well, those works well, but I personally don't like Java.

Most of other webcams on the net require Windows Media Player, some use RealPlayer. Except Apple's broadcasting and some archived news media, very few websites use QuickTime for webcame. I managed to get it working :-)

To set that up, I use my iSight as web camera, a QuickTime Broadcaster for broadcasting, and QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) to provide streaming to the rest of the world. Actually, I use the open source version of QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS), called Darwin Streaming Server for the streaming job. It's quite complicate to set it up (when compared to EvoCam), but once you get it up and running, all you need to do is give out a QuickTime streaming url like: rtsp://ServerAddress_or_IP/streamName.sdp

It's streaming video, not the regular webcam, and not video conference chat. It uses the world's best media player, QuickTime, not Java Applets.
