world's best encyclopedia is now free
In March last year, I mentioned the world's best online encyclopaedia - GuruNet - in “Google is the first option, not encyclopedia” entry. Well, I am still not sure how the world encyclop(a)edia should be spelt. If I spell it as encyclopaedia, I shall typeset it as “encyclopædia.” Note the “æ” is can be typed by Option + ’ (apostrophe) key, see How to type accented characters for more detail.
Google is a great tool for finding websites and links. But often, I want answers, not links. GuruNet is the only tool I know that gives me the answer I want, not pages of links I have to filter through. Hence, I am still saying,
Okay, back to topic. GuruNet is now free for all. Previously it was a subscription-based service for the entire content, with limited content as free service. Now, they are making the entire reference free to all. The difference? just a few ads.
As for me personally, I do prefer using the subscription-based service. I would be very happy to renew the service, since I found the information they provide is really useful, and worth paying for it.

Comparison of GuruNet (Mac), Answers.com (website) and 1-Click Answers.com
Let me search "iPod" on GuruNet (Mac):
I got following clean interface with results I want (what an iPod is).
Answers.com gives me following result. (two encyclopaedias displayed in the same page plus one small advertisement.)
Finally, 1-Click Answers.com (Mac) gives me the same result as in Answers.com, but in an independent window.
I do prefer the old GuruNet style, could be that I am outdated. Nothing wrong with the new Answers.com service, it's free! I do hope more people can enjoy this great online encyclopedia.
